Un-freaking-believable. Rob and Amber continue to outperform all past and present Amazing Race teams. Their performance on this leg, vindicating their previous gamble of taking a four hour penalty, was astounding. Squeaking onto that flight was a huge break-- Rob and Amber must crap Lucky Charms. But that's part of the game, and they're capitalizing on it. They're making things happen, which is more than you can say for any of the other teams-- certainly not now-eliminated bitch-factory Patrick. Good riddance. Lynn and Alex or Ray and Deanna next, please?
Posted by Peter at March 23, 2005 12:01 AMPeter: I've been checking in on your blog for some time and really enjoy your comments on life in general and TV shows I enjoy.
I admit to being absolutely hooked on Amazine Race -- Darling Daughter and I have a regularly scheduled watch party on Tuesdays. Several of this year's teams are going to shoot themselves in the foot with their obsession over Rob&Amber. They are so focused on disliking R&A that their own games are suffering. I agree with you that Rob is one of the best players ever to appear here. His grasp of personal dynamics, and ability to manipulate folks are incredible. I enjoy watching a master at work!
Posted by: Nancy on March 23, 2005 8:07 AMI thought you liked Lynn & Alex.
Posted by: Eddie on March 23, 2005 8:30 AMI agree. I'm now pulling for Rob and Amber out of spite! They are doing a great job, but all the hatred for them is making me like them even more.

Well, at least we can guess Rob has the Lucky Charms thing going, what with the strategically-placed horseshoe. :) I groan a little, but I do admire their tenacity.
I like Lynn & Alex if only for comic relief, but as usual, it's better to race than to complain about the other team(s).
Ray is proving himself to be a Jonathan-Lite (without all the screaming popups and self-focused ads).
And goodbye to Motherboy. Based on their video bio, thought they'd bring a lot of snarkiness, but no.
Posted by: Matt J. on March 23, 2005 10:30 AMI used to like Lynn and Alex, but their catty gay guy schtick has grown tiresome. As Nancy said, their obsession over Rob and Amber and continual snarkiness is not in the least appealing. Play the game, don't whine about it. I can't remember the last time I was so *delighted* by an hour of television. Seeing Rob and Amber move from a distant fifth into first place actually made me a little giddy. The show is much more entertaining with Rob in it, so any development that makes his continued survival more likely makes me happy.
Posted by: Peter on March 23, 2005 12:57 PMSo how much longer will this thing last? I've never seen an episode, but now you've got me curious.
Posted by: Stephen Glenn on March 23, 2005 7:09 PMConsidering the reaction to Rob's manipulations here, I wondered how this crowd responds to critic Robert Bianco's argument that "it's long past time for [The Amazing] Race rulemakers to draw a line between fooling other racers into doing something stupid, which is acceptable, and bribing bus and taxi drivers to cheat, which isn't." Posted by: David S on March 24, 2005 5:35 AMeach team is given x dollars at the beginning of the leg. if they decide bribing is the best use of that money that is their decision. besides, i think every season has had someone bribe a taxi driver to get them to go faster. this isn't a new idea.
