Top Ten Life Lessons From The Incredibles

  1. If everyone's special, nobody is.
  2. Always demand to know who you're working for.
  3. Nothing brings a family together like a surface to air missile attack.
  4. Spend your dying moments etching cryptic information into the wall even though, if anyone finds it, it'll probably be too late for them to figure out what it means, much less use it.
  5. Working in a cubicle crushes your soul.
  6. Being elastic would be way cooler than Mr. Fantastic makes it look.
  7. Big person + small space = funny.
  8. Always make sure you're smarter than your doomsday robot.
  9. Follow your dreams, even if it means breaking the law and keeping secrets from your loved ones.
  10. No capes.

Yeah, but did you like it?

It rocked. The character design was stellar-- they really thought through the various characters' superpowers. Little details-- like Elastigirl "parachuting" off the monorail car in the tunnel, instead of just leaping off-- were terrific. The rendering was gorgeous. The water, explosions, and so forth looked terrific. Iceman has long been a favorite X-Man, so I particularly enjoyed their treatment of Frozone. The action sequences were first-rate. Super stuff.

What excites me the most is that this is clearly a franchise film. They could begin work on The Incredibles 2 immediately. Sadly Disney probably has the rights to the characters, so Pixar isn't likely to devote its resources to such an effort unless a deal can be struck. It wouldn't surprise me to see a saturday morning cartoon series come of it, though I'm sure much of what made the film so fantastic would be lost.

Loved The Iron Giant, so Brad Bird is now firmly in the category of "will go to see anything he's involved with."
